Plain answers about how VerseGuard works.

VerseGuard blocks distracting apps until you recall a Bible verse from memory. These answers cover the mechanics, subscriptions, and privacy basics. For legal detail, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

What is VerseGuard?

VerseGuard is an iOS app that combines app blocking with scripture memorization. When you reach for a protected app, VerseGuard asks you to recall a verse from memory before you can open it. Over time, spaced repetition helps you move from friction to fluency — hiding God’s Word in your heart while reclaiming your attention.

How does app blocking work?

VerseGuard uses Apple’s Screen Time / Family Controls framework. You choose which apps to protect inside the app; iOS enforces the block on your device. VerseGuard is a self-discipline tool — not a parental control, security, or safety product.

How do I unlock a blocked app?

A verse appears on the unlock screen. Type it from memory, one word at a time, using the in-app keyboard. As you improve, VerseGuard hides more words and advances you through practice phases. Complete the challenge and the app unlocks for a grace period before the next review.

What is Hard Mode?

Hard Mode is an optional stricter setting. Instead of unlocking after a single practice round, you must fully master a new verse before the protected app opens. Your progress is saved if you leave and come back — the app stays blocked until mastery is complete. You can turn Hard Mode on in Settings.

Do I need an account?

No. VerseGuard has no sign-up, login, or email registration. Open the app and start. Your verse library, progress, streak, and settings are tied to your device.

Where is my data stored?

Your verses, memorization progress, streak, settings, and protected-app choices are stored locally on your iPhone. We do not operate a server that holds your personal study data. Deleting the app removes that data from your device. See our Privacy Policy for subscriptions, Screen Time, and third-party services.

What’s included in Premium?

Premium unlocks the full memorization experience — including spaced repetition, your full verse library, and advanced practice features. Exact free-vs-premium boundaries are shown in the app before you subscribe. You can use VerseGuard without Premium; upgrading is optional.

How does the free trial work? How do I cancel?

Eligible plans include a 7-day free trial. If you don’t cancel before it ends, it converts to a paid subscription and renews automatically through the App Store. Manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; your current period stays active until it ends. Refunds are handled by Apple. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open the paywall or subscription screen in the app and tap Restore Purchases. VerseGuard verifies your subscription through Apple and RevenueCat using your App Store receipt — no account password required. If restore fails, confirm you’re signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase, then email support@verseguardapp.com.

Which Bible translations are included?

VerseGuard ships with public-domain translations safe for use in the app, including the King James Version (KJV). Additional translations may be added over time. Copyrighted translations (such as NIV, ESV, or NLT) require separate licensing and are not included unless explicitly offered in the app.

Is VerseGuard available on Android?

VerseGuard is currently iOS only. App blocking relies on Apple’s Screen Time APIs, which are not available on Android in the same form. An Android version is not on the near-term roadmap.

Can VerseGuard see which apps I block?

Your app selection is stored on-device using Apple’s privacy-preserving tokens. VerseGuard sees counts, not the readable names of the apps you choose, and that information does not leave your device. We never receive a list of your installed apps.
